Hurricane Irene cut a new inlet across route 12 (not shown by google image above), and the Army Corp built a temporary bridge. This is the "new, new" inlet, just north of the "new" inlet. There is a sign on the parking lot on the southern side of the "new, new" inlet warning not to use the beach on the southern side of the inlet because of hidden obstructions. You can see poles sticking out of the water at low tide. You need to park along side of the road on the northern side of the temporary bridge. The access is easy through the paths across the dunes to the best waves on the outer banks.

Atmosphère
This is a good spot because when the hurricane washed out the sand dune (and the road) it dumped the sand just offshore and when the water from the bay is being pushed out through the inlet by the prevailing wind from the west it makes some nice swells on the shallow sandbar

Général
Warm water from the inlet, clean empty beach, great spot if you are on the outer banks, worth the drive down from Naggs Head
