 Maui

USA, Hawaii

Hana should have some rippable surf coming in from the N or NW areas at the end of this month. Ask once you pull in about where to surf - there's some really good breaks there. Sharks are there too, but the risk isn't any higher than what you'll find near Hilo or anywhere around Kauai (kind of a bad time to bring that up, I know...). Puamana will be flat. It's a S-only break, as are all breaks until you move up out of the Blackrock/Kaanapali shadow (unless it'a huge N swell, then Kaanapali Point might be good). There's a small handful of breaks up the westside between Kaanapali and Honolua but if your wife will be along for the ride I'd suggest DT FLeming beach, which has a great view of H-Bay, is right dopwn in front of the Ritz Carlton and has both sand-bottom lefts and over to the right a dead coral reef that can make for really fun, if short, rights. Plus, you've got Maui County lifeguards (think big-dog) sunup to sundown and a nice beach with bathrooms, shower, picnic area, BBQ and shade. North Shore you've got lots to choose from but with a family I'd head to Baldwin or Hookiopa - lots of people in the water, lifeguards, facilities and an overall groovy scene. Have a great trip.

Where to stay/surf in October - I will be heading to Maui the end of October for a week with my wife and young kid. What part of the island would provide the best opportunity for swell that time as it’s sort of between North and South seasons? I will have a car most of the time but would love to have short boardable spots within walking distance if possible where my fam can chill on the beach. Any recommendations would be much appreciated.
Thanks gazingus@juno.com

Place to stay... - I'm hoping to find a nice house to rent for my family when we vacation on Maui. There will be 7-10 of us, and we will need accomodation during the end of September through the 2nd week of October. I'm hoping to be near a snorkeling/surfing beach, and a shopping area for the ladies. If you can help, please email me: cdkyle@gmail.com.Thanks!!
