English (Traduisez ce texte en Français): St George is like much of the Gulf coast. It is the closest beach to Tallahassee. We find it surfable mostly in the winter and if a tropical swell comes in. You have to watch the weather to make this wave count. We have some beach parking along the road east and west of the hotel and shop areas. Have fun and the locals are great. Thanks
Atmosphère
English (Traduisez ce texte en Français): The island has great surf on south swells, but the points at either end have shallow water shoals and no decent waves.
Général
English (Traduisez ce texte en Français): Never a crowd and it is nice to see new folks out there surfing.

sharks in the gulf coast - i have lived close to st. george island for many years now and just wanted to answer the shark questions. yes. all year round there is a large population of bull sharks and sometimes a few tigers. Per capita not too many people are bitten but i have seen a few people including surfers get taste tested. the water on a good day is clear but often is quite murky. if you plan to spend time in the water best just avoind sitting in schools of fish on the bars and when fishing don't keep bait in your pockets

- I'm from St. George Island, and this page is totally raggin on the island... Beginners wave? It's pretty standard... Cape San Blass just around the corner is steeper and faster when in decent size, but when St George Island gets good, it's usually DAMN good, and when it's sloppy, its fairly mellow most of the time, but not always.... And most of the time it's fairly consistent, at least with small waves, on some "flat" days. But i've lived in panama city beach and the island, and over all, i have to say that between the two, the cleaner waves ive ever seen have been on the island. But PCB gets better surf, and cleaner most of the time, but the Island gets more surf and better surf than this site gives it credit for. There's a "secret spot" (yeah, i named that one, but everyone caught on, so hey...)heading out toward the state park which is breaking before anything on small days. As for best and cleanest spot, "first peak" in the plantation (which you cant get into unless u have a pass)DAMN good little wave. And it's not a bad paddle across the cut to little St. George where the surf fires all the time. If ya ever visit, you should take a boat out there.
