English (Traduisez ce texte en Français): This region stretches from the Clarence River south to Hakatere in the middle of the Canterbury Bight. Christchurch is not only the main city in the region, but it is also a major center for surfing, having a large number of quality spots in close proximity and a very active surfing population. Kaikoura is a well known tourist area, specialising in whale watching and dolphin-swimming activities. Less well known are the great surf spots near by.

Boards - Get in touch with Lee at Central Surf for a board - he da man! http://centralsurf.co.nz/ As to the nay sayers about Canterbury - you have no idea - there a whole lot of very good breaks around here - you have to know where you are looking. The peninsular is awesome - perhaps the most exposed area in NZ to all swell directions, and the beaches on the mainland are all good on their day.

board hire?? - I"m going to be in Christchurch area for about a week at the start of May and was wondering are there any board hire shops or will I need to bring my own.? Any info. appreciated.Cheersdap

chch has waves... - I have 4 spots around chch that i surf usually once a week,and withn an hour...all break on different winds and swell and all like any great surf spot are very powerful fast and hollow on their day neither1 r that consistent but altogether they r,that guy that wreckns its a jail cell 4 waves,only if u ride a gun i spose.or u surfed the well known spots,which are crap i most of the time,if it goes flat greymouth,kaikoura,dunnos and catlins are all gud 4 weekenders.....
