Informations supplémentaires
Park in the parking lot overlooking Off-the-Wall to the right. Paddle out to the right of the obvious rock boulders. Time the sets or you will get serious gas. Rockpiles serves a slopey takeoff that boils and creates a huge bowl on the inside that usually pinches. On its day, though, the wave will stay open. On a very rare occasion, the sand to the left of Off-the-Wall on a gigantic North swell will create a sand bar. This allows Rockpiles to accomodate four to eight foot waves to peel for a good 100 yards into Off-the-Wall territory. The right can also connect all the way to Log Cabins to the left. The right is very sketchy when there is no sand bar. Reef sticks out everywhere. Not worth riding the right unless it's breaking outside and at least four feet. Although the lifeguards have a close eye on the waveriders, it is highly recommended you do not get stuck on the inside. They do not call this spot Rockpiles for nothing.

Crowds are minimal. Lots of days go with none or only two people out. It's rare for it to even exceed twenty people in the lineup but it does happen.

Général
Back in 1995 I saw Rockpiles get so epic that every single professional surfer in the world was out. The beach was littered with photogs and the left went so long that it barreled over a sand bar all the way to Backdoor. On this day, Off-the-Wall was part of Rockpiles. It was pretty amazing. The swell was solid northwest swell with a shit load of west swinging it in diagonally. I have never seen it like that again. Truly one of the best lefts when everything comes together.

the 70's - rock pile and Logcabins....never went for the thrill big days bone crushing nut squeezing days...but had many chest high to head high days that were exciting...always looking for the boils and zipping around the heads gave good ride...the bottom will give you a nasty bump...gotta pay your dues
