From Country Harbour, NS follow the main Highway East along the coast. When you hit the small village of New Harbour you will see a river emptying into the ocean. The rivermouth is the place to be.

Park in the abandon store parking lot and paddle across the river or go around the corner and you will see a dirt road to your right. Take that road for about 50m park in the field and walk over the dune.

Atmosphère
There is a sizeable river that narrows to a small channel that is about 5-6ft deep at low tide and the water really rips. When the swell is coming in the combination can be a really cool wave that jacks up nicely. It is best to go close to the ebb to avoid the rip. If you are impatient and have to get out there you can surf the other end of the beach until the tide starts to let up. This spot is best in the fall during hurricane season. The small beach is at the end of a wide bay. As a result, you can see what appears to be a small wave jack-up to twice its size in a matter of seconds. The result is a ride that is powerful, and fast, but not overly long.

Général
This is a great spot if you want to escape the Halifax crowds. The water in the river is tidal and shallow. This allows the water to get super warm, well into the 70s and potentially the 80s. When the tide turns it carrys all of that warm water to the beach. The bad news is that it smells like shit, literally, but it won't hurt you. The locals are really friendly but look at surfers as bonified wingnuts. When your out, it won't be uncommon to see them driving down on their four wheelers for a look at the crazy guy/girl in the water. Either that or they are coming down to shoot what they think is a seal. I'm not sure but I haven't been shot yet. You might see a swimmer on a really rare hot and sunny day in August, maybe. In all it is a great place to have fun with NO crowds.

Short and fun - Yeah, I was there on the Canada day weekend. It is really shallow if you wipe out and a long drive from anywhere. But, there's no localism and it is very regular. Small fun stuff.
