English (Traduisez ce texte en Français): Its right near the pier in the centre of Bournemouth. Theres a few other beaches down the coast that are a bit more tricky to find but the pier offers good shelter and can form OK waves. English (Traduisez ce texte en Français): Car parks near by, swim out close to the pier (don't jump off pier). If you dont want to pay ridiculous carpark prices park for free up the hill west of the pier but its about a five min walk down.Pigeons is also known as Bournemouth Pier Bay. However Local Students refer to it as Pigeons originating from an incident that happened to Locals Rusty and Charly. Story tells that one day they were paddling out and saved a pigeon from drowning. Because its wings were wet it couldnt fly away so they surfed withe the Pigeon on the nose for a while. The Spot can be breaking clean on a good day with glassy rights and lefts. However on these days it can get pretty crowded as well. Localism is only average though although you are expected to respect the locals. Watch out for the Rip currents. On windy days it can get pretty choppy. on other days it can be a fun wave suitable for all kind of boards Thrusters and Longboards alike.

Drop in city - Been reading these comments, surfed here today, I have surfed all over the place, the pier is drop in city. No manners (not all, but quite a few) I've had a better local vibe in Lanzo and Portugal and I live here. Bournmouth pier, leave it for the egos and drop in old boys. You know who you are and so does everyone else. Losers.

Funny old game here - Grew up in Bournemouth but never surfed when I lived here
Started surfing in south coast Devon mush and moving onto Kerny north coast with a few frighteners.
Came back here not expecting much. Not expecting anything in fact!
But then I got just one ok session by the pier. SThat suprised me.
I always thought Bournemouth was a funny place for surfing. People will sit off the pier when it's flat.
I never used to understand that. I didn't really think there's any waves here.
There isn't. 70% of the time.
But on that one good day I started to see what it's about.
But now I've moved back I understand.
It's crazy the way Bournemouth has as much attention to surfing comparable even to Newquay bearing in mind the crappy waves. How much more dedicated the people are here.
Ain't easy.
I don't recommend being here unless you're stuck. The north of England and Devon is better.
Better to get into a wind sport here.
But if you can avoid the 9-5'ers, enjoy the point of a longboard and like a wave that's like a soft mushy toy that doesn't harm you can just about tolerate it. That is, until you can move away to somewhere nicer.
