Hi - Does somebody knows how Gran Canaria and the other islands around are from March to August because I wanna go for a surf trip ASAP, but would like good waves.
I am still kind of beginner, can stand up and turn abit on my 7,2" but that's all.
I hope somebody can help me, and give me some advise about which place would be best for me?
Cheers
Charlotte

Las Palmas - I've been living in Las Palmas for the last 5 months, and been surfing here since, this break has been really pretty consistently good throughout Jan and Feb 2007 this morning there was a good 6 foot to play with. I have been most days to his spot as it's 10 minutes from the apartment I have, on the whole the locals have been pretty good, with the exception of one guy who threatened me in Spanish (my Spanish is pretty poor, so I didn't get upset by it, as fuck knows what he said...) there are loads of people out at the weekends when the sun is shining so the main hazards are the crowds, and I have left stuff on the beach while I've been in the water without it going walkabout. On the whole, I would thoroughly recommend this place, as in the evening you can hit the bars in the Las Palmas, which on the whole not full of Brits on the piss, which is nice.

La Barra Spot - As someone correctly said before, the pics of la barra are all mixed up. For the one of tenerife, you probably went to "la cicer" which is the wildest part of Las Canteras beach. In fact, this is the only place of the beach which actualy has waves because it is the only place which is not protected by "la barra". La barra is a sort of volcanic reef that protects part of the bay and the beach. There are several different spots in la barra, each one with very different waves. My favourite is "el primero" (just look for an outstading rock when full tide). It is a short, hollow bowl like wave, perfect for high air when bodyboarding. There are many other spots, just check for locals, as they tend to spread along all the spots when it is too crowded.

Have fun! ;)

Sure a surfed here1 - I live in Tenerife but took a trip over here about a month ago and i am sure i went to this spot,it may hav been a one off but the waves were SIK!!! the bottom was all sand and it is next to the auditorium? is this right? if it is then i have to recomend this spot. its quite shallow but the barrels are SIK. But the fact that its a close out means stand up´s wont really have much of a chance!

not sand - Hi, i think you have wrong information about this spot..First pic is (la barra)and it´s called la barra because it´s a bar of rocks...second pic is (la siser) this spot is a beach after la barra spot....and the third spot is called (muellitos) and it´s bottom is sand... all of the spots are in the same areas but they are different waves....
BEACH: (MUELLITOS)....(LA SISER)..................(LA BARRA)
I hopa I´ve explained my self ok...ride on!!!
