Stoners is located at the point between San Blas and Matanchen Bay.
There are two ways to arrive at Stoners. One can arrive from Playa Borrego (the main beach of San Blas). Walk 1 1/2 km south along the beach until you arrive at the rivermouth. Paddle across the river and walk about 200m, along a dirt path through the jungle. Wear sandals since the path is not maintained. This path leads to the point.
There other way to arrive is from the highway that passes through Las Islitas, follow the road along Las Islitas beach, the road becomes rough (4X4 recommended) toward the end of the beach, but keep following it until you see the point.

When this wave is breaking, this is by far the best wave in the area. But this spot is not very consistent, and needs a good swell to break well.

Skunked - I was there earlier this week. I rented boards from stoners surf camp and paddled across the (allegedly crocodile infested) river to check it out only to find it to be really small. Ended up doing long boarding over by the jetty in San Blas. Waves were small but the crew at stoners surf camp were awesome and the water was almost 90 degrees which is awesome for us california guys.

The setup at this spot looks great and it definitely has potential. But expect it seems it needs monster swells to break even head high. Like if its 3x overhead or bigger in puerto it might be barely head high here. So if you really want to surf it I recommend camping out a few weeks at the surf camp. Showing up for a few days will likely leave you skunked, but its a cool town and a really nice beach.

Deet Rocks - We live in San Blas..and as long as you have repellant with Deet in it..like Backwoods Off...you will be fine. They will buzz around but not land on you at all. You cant get that kind of repellent in Mexico tho...get it before you come down. They do not sell anything with Deet in it.

Stoners bugs can be stopped along the trail - Back in the 70's, we used to walk the trail to the end of Las Islitas, and the moscos y jejenes were a definite reality of annoyance. What we did was wear those light weight long sleeve blue work shirts-buttoned up, beach pants/jogging pants over your surfing shorts, and socks with the sandals until getting to the break; then only your face and head were targets. Spray helps too if you want to go without the pants. It gets a little hot and sticky but well worth it. We were so young and stoked back then that we often just ran through the trail to the break without any protection. Ha. Crazy. Be sure and lock up your rig when you leave it to walk the trail. I think the Las Islitas way is fastest and easier than the rivermouth entrance. I recall a few April mornings 6-10 feet, off shore wind, semi-glassy that just blew our minds. The Cali boys-Perry and Gleni-I was with were so amazed, and were proud of me making several rides being from Colorado and then South Dakota. It was so big a few times that Little Stoners was also breaking 10-12 feet out in the bay south around "match box" we used to call it ( I think it is called 3rd point now). The memories will never be forgotten. I urge all of you to surf Stoners even it it is not that big. There is usually something when the season begins to build. Adios...Mateo Gordon
