Classic Left Point - Patos is a cobblestone-bottom, fast breaking, wall forming, tube sections, left point that breaks relatively close to shore and on 2-4 ft. days waves break for days and at 6 ft, I'd at least call it epic when waves peel down the beach for 500+ yards. It's a speed-generating wave but at the same time as the wave bends, a carveable 50-yard wall forms up that just leds to another new section, and another, all the way down the point. The wave breaks top to bottom (hence, the spot name "Pato" which means duck, as in ducking under the wave and getting tubed). So why isn't this place overrun if its that good? Well, it could be that I'm just a kook with bad eyesight or as my theory goes, factor the inbetween-the-swells flat days that are infamous in the Caribbean, times the remote access of the Patos area and times the visual shark population cruising by to collect rent as in nearby rivermouth. During rainy season, the beach can get the water trippy cloudy. But if your riding a wave for 500 + yards down the line, I'm thinking, what sharks? And how about winter/spring/early summer swells on the south side when the water is crystal clear, with warm sunny skies, daily offshore winds (unlike the north coast) and good swells? Patience, some swell luck, and just good ‘ole time and money is all it takes to score what I call a reverse Rincon but only longer. Kind of a claim but D.R. rules in my book. los patos and los patos - los patos de NIZAO, lefts, point break, super long. located just outside of BANI (to the east)don't go without a 4x4 if it has rained.los patos de BARAHONA, river mouth beach break, short,super thick, located just outside of PARAISO (to the west) thats where you can buy food and drinks right at the beach. if your surfing los patos de barahona you screwed up and drove right by the killer break in BAHURUCO ( just watch out for the two "coral heads" that are right in the middle of the wave if you go left about a foot under the water)and the park in PARAISO a.k.a. cornflakes(my local break)

Los Patos is a gift from God. - I think the South has been blessed with a beautiful place called Los Pato, San Rafael and Bahia de las Aguilas.Los Patos is the perfect place for stop if you driving further down. Feel like cooling off? Jump in the cold waters of the river. Want to catch a tan? Lay on the quiet stretch of sand of the beach. It's quite relaxing fun place to be. The locals are great. You will never be at loss for company. Dominicans are very friendly people and always welcome anyone who visits their country. Feeling hungry and thirsty? Don't worry, just order food and drinks from the ladies that serve food on the river edge if not walk up the road to the nice little restaurants that serve great fish and other delicacies.
