The Abrolhos Islands are situated parallel to the West Australian coast. They are made up of three groups of islands. The southern most group are called the “Pelsart Group”, the middle group “Easter Group” and the northern group are called “Wallabi Group”.The “Pelsart Group” are the closest to the mainland at 30 miles due west of Geraldton in the mid-west of Western Australia. The “Wallabi Group” is situated approx. 60 miles west of Kalbarri.
From Geraldton there are only day trips available to the Abrohlos at the moment, they are bloody expensive.
There are a number of ways to get there. Charter boat, which takes anywhere between 21/2 – 5 hours, depending on the weather. Fixed wing aircraft, can land only on one of three islands (one landing strip in each group of islands) and passengers must get a charter boat to take them to any other location. Helicopter, which takes 15-20 mins.to the “Pelsart Group”, 30-35 minutes to the “Easter Group” and approx. 40 minutes to the “Wallabi Group” in the north. The “Prestige” helicopter service has authorisation to land on any one of the 122 islands that make up the Houtman Abrolhos Islands.

The local dive shop in Geraldton is “Batavia Coast Dive Academy” and they also can arrange helicopter day trips to the islands for scuba/snorkelling or sightseeing.

 Informations supplémentaires

The best option for a surf trip to the Abrohlos is to befriend a cray fisherman (they are the worlds friendliest people) and let him take you to the spots.

The Abrohlos are 22miles off Geraldton and only have surf in winter. But when it breaks it is epic.

SHARKS - Oi! Surfed Abrolhos three times and each time I was attacked by a shark. First it took my leg, then it took my arm, then another leg. 3 for 3!!! Don't surf there! The waves suck anyway. They are not perfect. And it's totally crowded. And everyone is being attacked by sharks. BLOOD EVERYWHERE!!! And watch out for the locals! They are ninjas and carry samuri swords!!! DON'T SURF THERE!
