English (Traduisez ce texte en Français): First, you have to come in China... land at Qindao airport (40km North) and get at Qindao city (also written Qingdao). Driving by yourself is NOT allowed in China for non-chinese : you have to get a driver.
This is a big, modern city : check the hotels as you'd do anywhere else in the world. As far as the surf spot is concerned, it is located INTO Surf Plaza hotel (316 Hong Kong East road).
Because, yes, this is a private beach.
This is also the city where they make the infamous Tsing Tao beer. - Plage privée
English (Traduisez ce texte en Français): Since this is a private beach in city center, you just have to rent a room at Surf Plaza hotel... or find out how to screw the staff ! This is a pretty expensive hotel and their web site (surfplaza@slh.com) states "slh" for Small Luxury Hotels... see what i mean ?
If you intend to get there without being at the hotel, make sure to get a low attitude : just be invisible.
Atmosphère
English (Traduisez ce texte en Français): Qindao city is in the Yellow Sea, which makes it a nice place to find surf elsewhere than in private hundred-$-a-night hotels. Surf is all year round with a peak from june to november (Typhoons season).
Get on the seaside, meet the local citizens or (better) get off town and meet local coasters : they'll tell you where if you show them a surf magazine.
Général
English (Traduisez ce texte en Français): The spot is a small surf ease for the businessman resting at this Surf Plaza hotel, even if it can get in the 2 meters range on typhoon season.
Over population is not to be expected in the water, even if China is over populated in itself : this is private access, thanks !
If you meet (the few)local surfers, be open and make sure they show you the best spots !
Also... as we all know, Chinese government is not renowed for its openess : accept to be told 'No doing this -or that is forbidden' and accept those hidden microphones in your room, car and bathroom (yes !) and NEVER talk politics. Against chinese police or undercover political officers you weight absolutely nothing.

no wave most of the time - I grow up in Qingdao and now live in the Netherlands. Surfing has never been a culture in my town, and I doubt if it ever will be. For the reason that most of the days along the year, the ocean is just flat. If you want some little surfable waves you indeed need to travel to Laoshan area, or further nothing along the coast line. There is no surfshop, no place to rent board. The only place you can buy a bodyboard is in Decathlon. Last time I went back home it was Sep 2011. I was kinda suprised by the waves in the Golden beach in Huangdao. So if you ever want to give a try, head to Huangdao when the wave forecast on windguru is about 1.5m with north/nw/ne wind. You may get a good day with it. Cheers Kun

fresh1 - I will be in Qindao on Sunday the 17th of July and Monday the 18th of July, 2011. I am a surfer and want to surf the typhoon waves which will hit those days. But I do not have a board! Someone in Qingdao please help! If you ever come to Amsterdam, I can hook you up with a board and wetsuit and can take you to surf at our spot of Wijk ann Zee. I have been going to factories for three weeks and would love to get the break to surf Qindao! Thanks, DougEFresh
