English (Traduisez ce texte en Français): A few peaks spreading across bay, crowds more of a problem than S bay. Only works at 3hrs at each side of high tide cos of the sea wall ( don't get caught at high tide otherwise you have an a) sketchy pounding risky exit or b)a long paddle back along to the ramp. Bigger and more exposed to N'erlies than S bay. Park car on the slope and not the sea front to avoid parking charges out of season. Nice cafe/greasy spoon on the sea front and also a more of a 'sit down meal' sorta place on the slope. A bit more flash than the cafe. Quite a fit bird works there too.
English (Traduisez ce texte en Français): The atmosphere here is less layed back than S bay. Probably cos this is a better wave and locals may be a bit frustrated with drop ins and people getting in the way on nicer waves. However there are a lot of mellow longboarders at both bays who are (relatively) ultra freindly.
English (Traduisez ce texte en Français): North and South Bay are magnets cos of there close proximity to town. This causes crowds however both bays can handle it, which is a good thing cos the next nearest/decent surf spot is up in Saltburn.

Summary - Im going to summarise surfing in and around the scarborough area for you all, locals, non locals, transport locals, beginers, old timers, shortboarders, longboarders, boogie boarders,no board, kooks and visiting proffesionals. If youve been to the east coast before youll know its a fab place to surf if you have the right attitude and patience between swells. It isnt very consistent and chances are the waves will be good when your not here, but thats no different to anywhere in the world. If you havent been here, take some time out from your normal surfing routine, study the weather charts pack up your car and bring a friendly relaxed attitude and come and enjoy everything that is surfing on the east coast.South Bay is usually crowded but is a good place to learn to surf, theres a good instructor down there if you need one.It can get good, but youll soon get bored if you like suckier beach breaks.North Bay is slightly better, but sea defences have made good days here few and far between.Usually low and mid tides are better.Cayton Bay has great facilities and a good shop with surf instructors and hire ,so go there for convenience at all stages of tide.South side of the bay works at higher stages, North End at the lower end of tide.Yes theres a point break at one end, you can see it from the road clearly and yes it really is that crowded with all sorts of attitudes and abilities. It gets big and it gets good about once a year usually when theres snow on the beach. The locals wont give you an inch and if you drop in chances are somebody will get hurt.It is not a beginers wave so if you cant make fast ledgy drops give it a miss.Everybody also knows about the left point break further north as well but again same rules apply you need to have a certain degree of surf etiquette and you also need to respect the people who live here and surf here regulary. There are loads more spots that are getting explored by the local crew so that they can escape from the hassle going down at the more publicised spots. If your exploring and bump into them, dont expect them to welcome you with open arms and share there wealth of knowledge.Smile, say hello and whatever you do dont get bitter and twisted and dont put spots youve uncovered on sites like this just because your incapable for whatever reason to just surf a new spot and keep it under your hat.In general the locals are cool, so are most of the guys who travel here on a regular basis to surf, however we dont take lightly to being called knobheads by a select few ,on sites such as this. This place is a super place to surf and the relaxed vibe in the water will last as long as people dont over step the mark. Its no different to anywhere else in the world Hawaii,Bali,Australia or california. If you smile you surf if you drop in,paddle round and bad mouth the locals your running the risk of getting badly treated or just a good old smack in the face Yorkshire style!!.Quit the moaning about the spots you dont really know about, quit the backstabbing of the true locals, quit the bitching and just go surfing.

scarborough ' locals' - After surfing the east coast for 10 years , i have noticed that there now seems to be more and more knobheads in the water, many calling themselves 'locals'on websites such as this.Just because you live somewhere it doesn't mean you can drop in on anyone you feel likeAnyway, enough is enough - anybody who wants some fist, meet me outside the crazy golf course ,top end of n.bay, this saturday approx 10.30 am and i will gladly box their lugs for them
