First, you have to come in China... land at Qindao airport (40km North) and get at Qindao city (also written Qingdao). Driving by yourself is NOT allowed in China for non-chinese : you have to get a driver. This is a big, modern city : check the hotels as you'd do anywhere else in the world. As far as the surf spot is concerned, it is located INTO Surf Plaza hotel (316 Hong Kong East road). Because, yes, this is a private beach. This is also the city where they make the infamous Tsing Tao beer.
