I was thinking about surfing the Gold Coast next October but what I've seen it's the worst season to surf this spot.
Any experience to share ? Is it really bad or just not great ? I plan a 2-3 weeks surf trip from the 13th of October until 1st week end of November. I am beginner surfer but in progression for some bigger waves.
Im examining other options like California or Europe...
Thank you in advance for your comment.
Kind regards

Re:Looking for a spot - 2012/04/05 06:15Its a long, long way to Tipperary (or) its a long way from Switzerland to Sydney. Why would you be looking to surf in OZ or SOCAL? Just stay in Europe, water temps in CA would be similar! There are good waves on the Gold Coast and further South on the Central Coast of New South Wales. (We had overhead glass walls at Crescent Heads by the dawn's early light one November morning.)Note: beginners are not tolerated out at the good spots in both OZ or SOCAL, you need to get better first, also beginners and big waves is an oxymoron.

Re:Looking for a spot - 2012/04/05 07:14Thx DrC123,
Why not Europe ? I want to enjoy discover new countries home after completing some exams...
I know the good spots are for pro's Im just looking for some nice place where I can improve my style catching some waves. That's what Im looking for. I don't believe there is no beginner/intermediate spot in OZ I was thinking about surfer's paradise area.
So do you think october is still an option or should I just find another place ?

Re:Looking for a spot - 2012/04/06 02:56Surfers Paradise is a Japanese tourist trap. Only surf is a big nasty beach break with bad rip currents. The only beginner friendly place I can think of is at Hippieland, Byron Bay. Go out at Snapper Rocks and you will get punched out. Same thing over here in SOCAL last summer we saw a young kid get his nose broken for dropping in on a Huntington Beach skinhead. Why not fly to the warm blue waters of Waikiki Beach, Hawaii, good surf, good vibes and great travel deals. Aloha.

LOL I did, Hippieland NSW. Just had to drop CH had some of the best waves I have ever surfed out there. Take off way out on the point on a big overhead peak then run the wall through the racetrack all the way to the creek. Of course that was back in the day of only two or three people out for the dawn patrol. Went down to Lowers (Trestles)a few months ago at 4:30 AM hiked down the track in the dark to Uppers then along the sand to Lowers. Just about first light could see a bunch of pelicans in the line up ... oh no not pelicans, 30 guys out in the dark and it was only chest to shoulder high ... aaagh!
