I would and have cleaned the cut aggresively once you get out of the water.

But I would not surf in polluted water with deep cuts!

I started surfing after one week and had no problems...that being said, it's your call. Just have someone look at it and make sure there's not a big scab that's going to fall off when it gets wet. As long as it stays closed you should be okay.

I had a few stitched up my nose after an injury and went in the water a little too soon ...... didn't feel it or know anything was wrong until another guy paddled over to me and asked if I was ok. I'd started bleeding again and with the blood mixing with water, I looked a right mess .... stayed out of the water until my stitches disolved (disolving stitches were used) & the Doc gave me the all-clear

Also, how clean in the water you surf .....
